As The Little Gym continues to create memorable experiences for families and communities, stories like Stephani Corcoran’s show how our purpose, Movement with Meaning, comes to life through the spirit of Serious Fun.

Stephanie’s journey began not as an owner, but as a parent searching for the right place to help her child grow. What she discovered at The Little Gym transformed not only her son’s confidence, but her own future as well.

Watching Confidence Bloom

Stephanie first walked through The Little Gym doors as a parent with two children enrolled in classes. At the time, her son was shy and struggled with confidence and independence.

“We had tried other activities with him, and they just didn’t go very well,” Stephanie recalls. “He just didn’t have the confidence to go out there and do things on his own.”

Everything changed once he joined The Little Gym. Over time, she watched him slowly come out of his shell.

“I really watched him bloom,” she says. “He gained confidence, independence, and started trying new things. I probably saw that growth within the first year.”

Seeing the transformation her son completed helped Stephanie become a true believer in the program.

“If they could do this for my shy child, I could only imagine what they could do for other kids.”

A New Chapter: From Stay-at-Home Mom to Business Owner

At the time the previous owner decided to sell the gym, Stephanie found herself at a turning point in her life. After years as a stay-at-home mom, she was ready to return to work but still wanted flexibility to be present for her family. Owning The Little Gym felt like the perfect opportunity.

“I saw it as a way to be an active part of my community while still being there for my kids,” she explains. “I wanted to be home when they got off the bus and still have time with my family.”

That balance between purpose and flexibility made the decision clear. Stephanie became an owner to make a difference in her community while building a career that supported her family life.

Now, nearly 12 years into ownership of The Little Gym of Asheville, NC, she continues to lead with that same passion.

The Moments That Make It Worth It

Over the years, Stephanie has witnessed countless unforgettable moments, but there are a few that consistently stand out.

One of her favorite moments happens at the very front door.

“Seeing the kids’ faces when they walk in, that excitement knowing this is the part of their week they look forward to most,” she says. “That enthusiasm is renewing every single day.”

She also finds joy in watching hesitant children gain independence over time.

“There’s nothing like watching a child who starts out unsure slowly gain confidence,” Stephanie shares. “From sitting with their parents, to stepping onto the mat, to finally participating on their own…those are life skills, not just gymnastics skills.”

Even when working behind the scenes in her office, the sounds from the gym remind her why she loves what she does.

“Hearing kids laughing and squealing with delight, that’s the best feeling,” she says. “It makes my heart happy.”

What “Serious Fun” Means

At The Little Gym, the phrase “Serious Fun” represents more than just playful activity. For Stephanie, it reflects a deeper mission.

“To me, it means giving kids a place where they feel safe, loved, and accepted,” she explains. “A place where they can relax, be themselves, and have fun.”

While kids are busy pretending to be pirates or mermaids, they are also learning important life skills that extend far beyond the gym.

“We’re teaching independence, confidence, teamwork, and kindness,” Stephanie says. “Those are serious skills that last a lifetime.”

Why The Little Gym Still Matters

For Stephanie, her commitment to The Little Gym remains rooted in its values.

“There are so many programs for kids today, but The Little Gym is still true to its core,” she says. “We focus on helping children grow socially and emotionally, not just physically.”

In a world where youth activities are becoming increasingly competitive at younger ages, Stephanie believes The Little Gym offers something different.

“This is a place where kids can still be kids,” she explains. “It’s not about competition. It’s about being your best self.”

That belief continues to fuel her passion and dedication every day.

“And that’s why,” Stephanie says, “I will always love The Little Gym.”
