Our Story

Who we are at

The Little Gym of North San Antonio

Adi and Magdalena Mata are the owners of The Little Gym of North San Antonio since August of 2017.  The story of how they came to be the owners of a resale gym is quite intriguing.  The two of them met while in college at The University of Texas at San Antonio in 2002 and have always dreamed of owning a business together.  As time would come to pass, they married, had children, and decided they would take the leap together as small business owners in a franchise that was family-centered, rooted in child development, and immersed in a joyful atmosphere.

Magdalena has a background in public education as a middle school teacher for over 12 years and has always found interest in child development businesses.  Adi has a background in real estate and finance and was feeling constrained and lack of true joy in his field. After researching the best family franchises, The Little Gym of North San Antonio presented itself as an opportunity for resale, which the Matas decided was the best option for them and their family.  As a family business, you will see “Coach Adi” and “Ms. Magdalena” at the gym teaching classes, answering phones, and mingling with their members while their two children, Ynez, 5, and Xabi, 3, are in tow!  They hope to create a joyful, respectful, and welcoming environment for all those who walk through their doors, from the teachers to members.

Our Philosophy of Three Dimensional Learning

The Little Gym of North San Antonio, our environment is fun, but our purpose is serious. That’s why we embrace a proprietary philosophy called Three-Dimensional Learning, in which physical activity is a conduit for nurturing your whole child. The Three-Dimensional Learning approach to skill development means that every class we offer fosters growth in three holistic dimensions—Brain Boost!, Get Moving! and Citizen Kid!.  Read on to see how each dimension of learning helps your child grow into a well-rounded, well-adjusted super kid.

45 Years of

Serious Fun

An innovative educator, musician and kinesiologist, Robin Wes envisioned a nurturing place where children could explore their physical development, while also growing socially, emotionally and intellectually. He opened the first The Little Gym in 1976 in Bellevue, Washington and infused those early classes with the same positive, non-competitive spirit that characterizes us today. Forty-five years later, children at The Little Gym of North San Antonio experience the benefits of Serious Fun.
