Our Story

Who we are at

The Little Gym of Germantown, MD

Owned and operated by local families, The Little Gym of Germantown strives to be not only a fun place for your kids but a great place for you to do business. Husband and wife team Richard and Kristin Swick opened their first The Little Gym franchise location in 2002. In 2005, Melissa Evans joined their crew at a 2nd franchise location and took on the role as Gym Director. Now, together, they own the Germantown and Gaithersburg franchise locations. The times have changed but the philosophy stays the same: be a positive learning environment for kids and a great place for parents to bring them.

Melissa is trained to teach every program at The Little Gym, holds numerous awards from The Little Gym International, and is also a licensed Kindermusik Educator. With a busy second life as a mom to three boys, Melissa most frequently works hours during her kids' school day but will appear in some evening or weekend classes on occasion.

Alison, Front Desk Manager, is an amazing Parent/Child and Pre-K teacher who, in her first week of working with us, already declared that working at The Little Gym is the most rewarding job ever! She previously worked in Head Start for two years and then added on to her resume with customer service and retail sales experience. Alison is a part-time instructor who will bond with anyone over talk about the Caps or Redskins...so yes, she's a native of this area and has the team loyalty to prove it!

We'd love to introduce you to every instructor at our facility but think that seeing them in person is the best way to know them!

45 Years of

Serious Fun

An innovative educator, musician and kinesiologist, Robin Wes envisioned a nurturing place where children could explore their physical development, while also growing socially, emotionally and intellectually. He opened the first The Little Gym in 1976 in Bellevue, Washington and infused those early classes with the same positive, non-competitive spirit that characterizes us today. Forty-five years later, children at The Little Gym of Germantown, MD experience the benefits of Serious Fun.
