Awesome Birthday Bashes are Actually Pretty Awesome!
Tori and I have a confession to make: Until October, we had never had an Awesome Birthday Bash for our children. Even though we have been part of The Little Gym family for more than three years, birthdays for our oldest were always self-organized, self-hosted, and self-run.
After finally experiencing a The Little Gym party from the parent side, my first reaction was "Why in the world hadn't we done this earlier?!?"
Of course, you can assume that - because I am an owner - I have to say that. The truth is if it wasn't a great experience, I just wouldn't post at all (or put something from the marketing department here instead). So let me tell you why I personally think that "awesome" really is a good word to describe birthdays at The Little Gym.
Parents Can Enjoy and Relax
When you have a birthday party at your home, you are on point the entire time. I know that I have spent most of the last three birthdays either in the kitchen or at the grill cooking, only to step out during the main events. And of course, once everyone is gone, there is a disaster of a kitchen to deal with (not to mention the rest of the house).
With the party at The Little Gym, I showed up, helped get the cake in the door, and then I was done. I was actually a bit uncomfortable for a while, as I kept thinking "I need to be doing something!" But once other kids and parents showed up, I relaxed completely, and spent some time catching up with friends I only seem to see at these sorts of occasions. And this isn't just a dad thing. Tori had the same experience. We didn't have to worry about having enough food or when it was time to do cake or presents. We just got to relax and enjoy watching our daughter have a blast with her friends. Best of all, when it was over, NO CLEAN UP! That's what I'm talkin' about!
Kids Have Fun
And speaking of having a blast, the children at the party were playing and having a great time. Now you might think "Yeah, and they can do that at the pizza and ball pit joint down the street." And you are right. But there are three main differences from my perspective.
First, they had The Little Gym all to themselves. No lines, no older kids to get in their way…they could do everything they wanted to do, when they wanted to do it, without worry or frustration. Great for them, and great for us as parents, too!
Second, The Little Gym is clean. I think we all shudder at the thought of what has happened to some of those balls in the ball pit. None of those concerns here. As much as I have seen the team clean everything at the gym with an intensity that rivals some hospitals, it wouldn't have bothered me if they had decided to eat the birthday cake straight off the floor.
And finally, they had two team members focused completely on them. They helped them explore the balance beam and uneven bars. They organized games of tag and hide 'n' seek. And of course, they made sure that our birthday girl was the center of attention throughout.
Definitely Awesome
So am I biased when I say that Awesome Birthday Bashes at The Little Gym really are awesome? Absolutely. But that bias is because of our experience of having a birthday party here. Our daughter and her friends had a blast, and Tori and I had a great time because being able to actually focus on her instead of entertaining.
My only disappointment - that I have to wait nearly a year before we get to do it again!
