We’ll even have some visits throughout the week by our REAL-LIFE superheroes – police officers, firefighters and paramedics!
July 1st – 3rd
From Islands to Icebergs!
Have you ever been to the North Pole? How about to the tropical islands of the south pacific? Your kids will pretend to frolic and play in both of these incredible destinations in the same day – every day of camp! From polar bears, penguins and snow caves to luaus, coconut trees and volcanos; the kids will have a blast participating in exciting adventures in these two earthly extremes!
July 8th -10th
Lights, Camera, Action!
Who knows how many of our TLG campers of today just might be the Movie Stars or Broadway actors of tomorrow? What we DO know is that each child will have many fun-filled creative movement, role-playing and even acting experiences this week! By the end of the week we just might even have a “World Premier Movie” – starring all of our campers – to show the parents!
July 15th – 17th
“Please fasten your seatbelts and know that your Imagination may be used as a floatation device!” The children’s imaginations will truly SOAR this week as they pretend to fly in helicopters, zeppelins, flying saucers, jetpacks – and more! “How will they do this?” – you may ask! Leave that to us! Providing creative, fun-filled adventures is our specialty!
July 22nd – 24th
Hip-Hop Karate Chop!
As the theme suggests, this week will be an incredible action-packed combination of karate and hip-hop dance skills! Whether your child is already a “dancer in the making”, an aspiring “ninja” – or just a curious little “mover”, this camp will be an energetic, rhythmic adventure like no other!

The Summer Olympics are back once again in 2012! We will celebrate by having our own The Little Gym Olympics during this week of camp – complete with Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and of course the Grand Awards Presentation! Our Parent-Child classes are often the first organized class experiences that families with infants and toddlers have. Stepping into a new space with new faces and activities can be a bit overwhelming for both you and your child. We want you and your little one to relax and enjoy your time at The Little Gym of Lubbock, so we thought we’d answer some common questions about our Parent-Child classes.
· Why would I do gymnastics with my baby/toddler? Our Parent-Child classes are designed to foster your child’s development. Each and every activity we conduct focuses on different aspects of your child’s growth: physical, mental, social, and emotional. For instance, we practice skills like rolling and hanging upside down that help build confidence and balance; they even encourage the development their inner-ear! Our exploration time encourages independence, curiosity, socialization, and gives you and your child plenty of opportunities to bond. Parent-Child classes have a mix of structured activities intended to help your child grow and to give them a fantastic head start to learning.
· Why do you play with musical instruments in the gym?Music has been scientifically proven to help young children develop in the following ways: it improves neurological and psychological health, strengthens motor skills and coordination, encourages creativity, improves stress reduction and relaxation, stimulates right-brain activity and the senses, plus, it’s fun! In our classes we use different rhythmic instruments, listen to directive and creative background music, sing songs, and dance! If you want to learn more about how music benefits toddlers, see this article: http://www.brighthub.com/education/early-childhood/articles/65018.aspx
· What if my child gets bored or distracted? Our Parent-Child classes are 45 minutes in length. We have segmented our classes into various different activities which also include periods of exploration time between our structured portions of class. Being in such a stimulating environment can be overwhelming, that is why we have designed our program to give your little one the opportunity to explore at their own pace. We do use repetition in our activities because it helps build muscle memory and is a good learning method for infants and toddlers. We also change some class activities weekly and re-arrange the gym equipment on a regular basis to create new play spaces to explore. Your class won’t have to contend with the noise and distractions of several classes at once; you’ll be the only ones in the gym!
· Why do the kids go barefoot in the gym? Our infants and toddlers (and all the other classes for that matter!) go barefoot in the gym. The primary reason is that it is much safer. Socks can be slippery on floor mats and equipment, but bare feet are nice and grippy! Going barefoot also gives our littlest gymnasts the opportunity to feel the different surfaces with their feet and learn how to move from one surface to another without a break in balance or momentum, and helps in other ways, like providing an opportunity for their feet to move through their full range of motion which allowing them to grow and develop healthily.
· You see lots of kids in the gym each day. What about germs? We do see A LOT of kids every day, so we work hard to keep our gym clean! We pay special attention to the equipment that most often ends up in little mouths, like the musical instruments, bars, and the tall foam props. You will also likely see our team cleaning the facility, because we do it often! From mid-day and end of the day cleanings of all of the equipment and surfaces to our weekly “deep clean” of the gym, we make cleanliness of our facility a principal objective. Everyone is encouraged to do their part too by using our antibacterial gel dispensers in the facility. We also ask that parents keep kids who are coughing or running a fever at home. That’s what our make-up classes are for!
As always, you are welcome to come in for a free Parent-Child class at The Little Gym. You can see our class schedule and set up your preview class online. Whether you've got a Bug, a Bird, a Beast, or a Super Beast, we know you’ll find that it’s the best thing going for the under-3 crowd! Just wait until we tell you about our preschool/kindergarten program!!

The funny thing about scientific research is that it often confirms our suspicions about things. Here is a link to a recent study done by Professor Zhen Cong that was published in Texas Tech Today. She finds, as the title suggests, that parent’s are the key to creating sustained healthy habits of physical activity.
We as parents can become overwhelmed with our busy lives, but it is valuable to remember the significant influence we have on our children and the habits they form. There are tons of fun things to do with and for your child to get them out there and moving, we are happy to be one such place dedicated to improving the lives of children. At The Little Gym of Lubbock, each class begins with children removing their shoes before entering the gym floor. Beginning in September with the 2012-2013 Season of classes, Lubbock-area children and parents can donate shoes they have outgrown or no longer need in special Soles4Souls drop boxes located in the lobby. The shoes will be shipped to Soles4Souls, which is committed to collecting and distributing shoes to people living in extreme poverty and recovering from natural disasters.
“The ‘Big Hearts, Little Shoes’ program is a natural fit with what we do at The Little Gym of Lubbock. While gymnastics and physical skills form the basis of our classes, our curriculum provides for a well-rounded experience for children. ‘Big Hearts, Little Shoes’ is a perfect complement to our focus on life skills that help children grow into well-rounded citizens of the world.
Soles4Souls collects shoes to provide relief to victims of natural disasters and to support micro-enterprise efforts to eradicate poverty. Since its inception in 2004 Soles4Souls has distributed over 17 million pairs of shoes, and has responded to more than 40 natural disasters worldwide with crisis relief aid, including Hurricane Katrina, the Haiti earthquake in 2010, the Japan earthquake, and the Alabama and Missouri tornadoes in 2011. With 1 in 4 people around the world living in abject poverty, the shoe charity also assists individuals living in developing nations and in the U.S. and Canada who cannot afford shoes. www.souls4soles.org.
We hope to see your smiling faces and worn-out shoes soon!
- Your The Little Gym Team
Wow, what a show! Last night was an absolutely fantastic display of all-around gymnastics by the USA Women’s Gymnastics Team. The Fab 5 had a breathtaking night!
Each of them have such wonderful complementary strengths that lend to their great success. McKayla Maroney is such an exciting girl to watch, especially with the performance she put on last night, completing what we all thought was a perfect execution on vault. Kyla Ross was such a solid competitor throughout, showing poise and control in each event. What an example of true spirit and character by Jordan Wieber, coming back from her disappointment the previous night, missing the chance to compete in the Women’s All-around finals. It didn’t seem to faze her as she stepped up to the plate in each of her events and did extraordinarily well. Gabby Douglas just continued to surprise and impress us all with her top-notch routines and execution. Finally, when it was Aly Raisman’s turn to finish out the competition we couldn’t help but smile watching her face as she performed her last pass of her excellent floor exercise, knowing Team USA had taken home the gold medal!
Those girls are such a wonderful example of teamwork and dedication for our young one’s here in Lubbock. They made me even happier to be a part of a wonderful gymnastics program. The goal of The Little Gym is to not only provide those solid all-around gymnastics skills, but to also build confidence, character and the desire to encourage and uplift those around them, like we were all privileged to see the Fab 5 display.
Go Team USA!!!
What are you trying to achieve? We look forward to helping you striving for your victories!
-Your The Little Gym Team
The best way to encourage kids to try their best is with a smile! But don’t take out word for it. Research studies confirm that positive feedback triggers a natural drive for kids to discover their own potential. Intrinsically motivated children are more involved in their own learning and development and tend to be more enthusiastic learners.
So how can you help your child become intrinsically motivated? Praise your child’s efforts as well as their actual accomplishments. Offer suggestions in a supportive way and never criticize or compare their efforts to another child’s.
Here at The Little Gym, we celebrate gold medal moments every day by challenging children to strive for their own personal best in a positive, non-competitive environment. Each new accomplishment builds confidence and each successful experience motivates kids to try for the next. Whether they’re learning to land the perfect cartwheel or are learning to listen and follow directions, the confidence gained will inspire them to strive for new challenges with proud Olympic-sized smiles on their faces.
We are so excited to announce The Little Gym is joining the Lubbock community!
Our curriculum-based non-competitive gymnastics classes are perfect for your child, ages 4 months to 12 years. We will be located at 5217 98th Street in the Southwest Lubbock Medical Plaza shopping center between two very yummy restaurants.
The lobby will feature full-length windows that will provide an amazing view of your child’s accomplishments in the gym. Our spacious multipurpose room is perfect for your child’s birthday party. The gym will have the environmental friendly Tiffin Mat gymnastics flooring. We’ve provided a convenience counter for parents to get any last minute work finished or recharge their phones. Our free in-gym WiFi network will allow you to stay connected without missing a flip. With raised ceilings in the gym, our grade school gymnastics classes will have plenty of room to perform those advanced skills requiring more height. The pro shop will have all of your favorite goodies including shirts, leotards, and your very own The Little Gym accessories.
Now that the lease is signed, the construction will soon be underway. We’re expecting to open September 2012 for some Serious Fun! Come join us!
