Once upon a time there were two moms, each with a two-year old son. Both moms took their sons to the neighborhood playground one sunny spring day, and both boys were chomping at the bit to get climbing, swinging, and playing.

Johnny ran over to the slide and started climbing up. Cautiously, he looked over at his mom, Jenny, who was strolling casually toward him, to gage her reaction. Jenny called out, "You can do it! I am right here!" Johnny confidently continued his climb up the ladder, slid happily down the slide, and then raced to the climbing wall. Jenny followed him over, standing behind him to keep him safe; but, let him take the lead as he climbed up. "I'm right here-you're doing great-just one foot at a time-good job holding on tight with both hands-keep it up-you've got it!" Johnny felt great and couldn't wait to do it again.

Billy ran over to the same slide and started to climb up. Cautiously, he looked over at his mom, Beth, who was racing to him with a worried look on her face. "Wait until I get there! You might fall!" she called out, rushing to get a good grip on him in case he fell on his last few steps. After Billy slid down he took a good look at the climbing wall; but, Beth said, "You're too little to do that."

So, my question to you is: which little guy left the park that day better prepared for school? Which one left the park that day more likely to try new things and take appropriate risks? Which one left feeling confident, happy, and fulfilled?

One of the most difficult things we do as parents is let go; and, even harder than letting go is being willing let your kids take risks or maybe even skin a knee and get a few bumps along the way.

These are crucially important lessons that lay down the foundation for a child's future. Parents hear us at The Little Gym encouraging them to let Johnny and Billy try it on their own, to let go of their hands while running during the warm-up. We encourage parents to let them do some things on their own with minimal help from mom and dad. We encourage this because the importance of our classes does not only lie with learning a new skill- we are also very focused on building their confidence and their willingness to take appropriate risks. These life skills are invaluable to the future success of every child. So, next time you are at the playground or at The Little Gym, let go just a little bit more. Stay close by, and be ready to catch them if they slip; but, let them do it by themself and see the confidence they gain each time trancend into their classroom, relationships, and life in every way. Behind that ear-to-ear grin is self-esteem, and a strong willingness to try new things; and, they will know that you are always there when they fall and love them just the same! You won't regret it!
We are so thrilled to introduce a brand new member benefit called Practice Time. Open to all students throughout the Season, Practice Time is not the same thing as weekly classes. It's also not a time for free play. Practice time is a structured and supervised period for children to reinforce the skills they're learning in class each week. It's an optional way for your child to benefit from Three-Dimentional Learning. (Brain Boost, Citizen Kid skills, and Get Moving) And best of all- it is free.

Practice Time will focus specifically on gymnastics techniques which are those essential skills that form the core of nearly every physical activity. Students enrolled in Parent/Child, Pre-K, and Grade School Gymnastics will focus on the skills learned in class that week. Dance and Sports Skills programs can use Practice Time Sessions to develop complimentary gymnastics fundamentals. Practice Times for Parent/Child students will be 30 minutes long and Practice Times for Pre-K, Sports Skills, Dance, and Grade School students will last 45 minutes.

Since our main concern with all of our activities is the happiness of our customers, you will recieve an email from The Little Gym asking you which of our possible time slots would work best for your family. Using the information gathered from the currently enrolled families, we will determine our official Practice Times! We hope you are excited about this new activity!
