The Little Gym of Burnsville is proud to support the Our Military Kids grant program!
Our Military Kids provides tangible support to children of deployed National Guard and Reserve personnel as well as to children of severely injured service members through grants for enrichment activities and tutoring. Such activities help these children cope with the stress of having a parent in a war zone or recovering from injury at home.
Our Military Kids grants are made to honor the sacrifices that military families make and to ensure that their children have access to sports, fine arts, or academic tutoring programs.
We are still becoming familiar with all of aspects of this great program but wanted to let everyone involved with The Little Gym of Burnsville know about it now so that that if they or anyone they know qualifies for this program they can take advantage of it as soon as possible!
Here is just some basic FAQs about Our Military Kids grant program.
Q: Who can receive a grant from Our Military Kids?
A: Children ages 3 years through 12th grade of National Guard or Reserve military personnel either deployed overseas or severely injured may apply.
Q: How much is each grant for?
A: Grants are awarded for up to $500 per child per activity.
Q: Which of The Little Gym programs are eligible to receive grant money?
A: Almost all of them! The website states that gymnastics, dance, cheerleading, martial arts, and sports programs are supported. The only program that is not eligible to receive grant money is Parent/Child because the children are under the age of 3.
Q: How do families request a grant?
A: Families simply need to fill out the form on the OurMilitaryKids.org website and include the appropriate requested paperwork and documentation. A The Little Gym schedule which clearly states the cost of the program must be included as well.
Q: How are the classes paid for?
A: Once the families request for a grant is approved, a check will be sent and made payable directly to your The Little Gym location.
Q: May the same child apply for more than one grant?
A: Yes. Children are eligible for two grants per deployment as long as, 1) the deployment is 365 days or more, 2) the service member has at least 60 days remaining on the orders at the time the second application is submitted, and 3) it has been six months since the first grant award.
Q: May more than one child from a family apply for a grant?
A: Yes. All children in a family may apply for a grant as long as the child meets all the criteria for eligibility. The $500 limit applies to each child not to each family.
