Summer Camp Themes and Descriptions

June 11th-15th

From Islands to Icebergs!

Have you ever been to the North Pole? How about to the tropical islands of the south pacific? Your kids will pretend to frolic and play in both of these incredible destinations in the same day - everyday of camp! From polar bears, penguins and snow caves to luaus, coconut trees and volcanos; the kids will have a blast participating in exciting adventures in these two earthly extremes!

June18th-22nd

Sail Away to Pirate Bay

The "Little Gym Pirates" embark on unforgettable adventure to Pirate Bay as they search for the "Hidden Treasure of Pickle-Faced Pete" - the silliest pirate that ever tickled a squid! Searching for strange clues that have our little pirates doing everything from straddle rolls to back handsprings is just a sample of what is in store. Will they find the treasures? What kind of incredible pirate gymnastics and games does Pickle-Faced Pete do? You'll just have to hop on board and see!

June 25th-29th

Barnyard Bonanza

From "hoe-downs" and haystacks, to pigs and ponies! A fun week at the farm will be had by all! These and other "barnyard" attractions will be the inspiration for fun, creative activities and games this week! And the best part is they won't be covered in mud when you come to pick them up at the end of the day!

July 9th-13th

Superheroes!

Look up in the sky! It's a bird! It's a plane! No - it's your Superhero child flying, dashing and speeding around The Little Gym "saving the day" with their super powers! The kids will have fun pretending to be their favorite superhero during this Marvel-ous week of camp! We'll even have some visits throughout the week by our REAL-LIFE superheroes - police officers, firefighters and paramedics!

July 16th-20th

Whales, Sharks, Mermaids

"We all play in a Jello Submarine" this week! Have you ever "Sailed on a Whale", "Swam with a Shark at the Park", or "Played with a Mermaid"? No? Well, this week is your chance! Our sea creature theme will inspire fun, educational and creative movement challenges, crafts, games and music! Whether your child is a whale or shark "fanatic" or dreams of being a beautiful Mermaid, this week is sure to delight everyone!

July 23rd-27th

Lights, Camera, Action!

Who knows how many of our TLG campers of today just might be the Movie Stars or Broadway actors of tomorrow? What we DO know is that each child will have many fun-filled creative movement, role-playing and even acting experiences this week! By the end of the week wejust might even have a "World Premier Movie" - starring all of our campers - to show the parents!

July 30th- August 3rd

The Little Gym Olympics

The Summer Olympics are back once again in 2012! We will celebrate by having our own The Little Gym Olympics during this week of camp - complete with Opening and Closing Ceremonies, and of course the Grand Awards Presentation! Each day will offer fun-filled sports activities. But be forewarned! Along with familiar sports, we might try some fun Whacky Sports that have never been done before!

August 6th-10th

My Animal Planet

Is your child fascinated by animals? Do they pretend to be their favorite animal on a daily basis?! If so, this is the perfect camp for them! We will explore "animals" through creative movement, music and games. Each day of camp will focus on animals found in different parts of the world! We even plan on having some REAL "animal visitors" come to the gym throughout the week!

August 13th-17th

Cars, Planes, Trucks & Trains

Is your child crazy bout "Trucks"? "Trains"? Do they dream of flying, or speeding across the finish line in their racecar?! Each day this camp offers fun activities, music and games about one of these modes of transportation; an exciting week of Transportation Fascination!

August 20th-24th

Fantasy Castle

Wonder and fascination will be brought to life during this week of Legends, Fables and Fairytales! Has your child ever pretended to be a Unicorn, Dragon, Knight, or Princess? Do they love the stories of "Robin Hood" or "Cinderella"? The kids will get to bring these and other characters and stories to life this week - and get some great exercise at the same time!

Each New Year is a new opportunity to focus on making positive changes in your life. While this is a great habit for everyone, it’s especially important for parents. Why? Because the choices that you make not only benefit you, they have a direct effect on your child’s health, too!

Here are 3 parenting resolutions to consider for 2012:

1. Instill a love for physical activity. Physical activity provides countless benefits. So, it’s important to help your child develop healthy habits at an early age. In addition to gymnastics, The Little Gym has several physical activities for kids, such as Sports Skills and Dance, which can help your child develop a love for an active lifestyle.

2. Establish healthy eating habits. Keep healthy, yummy snacks on hand and set an example for your child with your own food choices. Plan low fat meals that follow the government's MyPlate guidelines and involve your children in meal planning and shopping. This allows you to reinforce your child’s healthy meal options and helps children discover new foods and flavors.

3. Focus on your child's positive behaviors. Like adults, children respond to favorable comments and adopt behaviors that gain them attention. Try to get in the habit of catching your children “at their best.” Providing encouragement for good behavior or for achievements in sports or other physical activities is a great way to motivate children to maintain good habits.

While you help your children develop healthy habits, don’t forget to make resolutions for your own health as well. In fact, consider resolving to get some well-deserved “me” time this year. Planning some time away from the kids should be considered a necessity rather than a luxury. Plus, brief separations are beneficial for kids as well. Time away helps foster a feeling of independence and builds bonds with other adults such as grandma, a favorite neighbor, or The Little Gym instructors. And if you need a parents night out, our Parents’ Survival Nights have got you covered!

As we start the New Year, we’re thrilled to have helped so many children in the South Charlotte area develop an appreciation for fitness and fun with our kids gym classes.  We’re still taking enrollments for students that want to join the 2012 Season.
